Bio
Beatriz H. Jaramillo is a visual artist who investigates the connection between Art, Environment, and Community: A Journey Through Ceramics, Sculpture, and Education. In her work, she uses the landscape as a metaphor to emphasize the tensions caused by the divide between nature and culture, encouraging viewers to think about their relationship with nature.
Beatriz studied Architecture in her native Colombia and earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Los Andes University. She later moved to Los Angeles, where she studied Ceramics at Cerritos College and earned a Master's in Art Education in 2009. In 2015, she obtained an MFA in Studio Art with an emphasis on Ceramics from California State University, Los Angeles. She has exhibited her work at various galleries and museums in Los Angeles and Bogota, and in 2019, she was awarded an art residency (AIR) at Los Angeles Clean Tech Incubator (LACI) to integrate art, science, and technology with community participation and inspire meaningful dialogues about environmental issues.
She is also an Art Educator and has served as a teaching artist for ArtworxLA, the City of Commerce, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Norton Simon Museum. Additionally, she has served as a faculty member at Cal State University, LA, teaching Ceramics.
Beatriz H Jaramillo es una artista visual que invewstiga la connecion entre el Arte, el Medio Ambiente y la Communidad; un Viaja Atravez de la Ceramica, la Escultura y la Educacion. En su arte ella usa el paisaje cómo metáfora para, resaltar las tensiones producidas entre la naturaleza y la cultura, invitando al expectador a reflexionar sobre su propia relacion con la naturaleza.
Beatriz estudio arquitectura en pais natal, Colombia, y en 1991 recibió su diploma de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de los Andes, Después de mudarse a Los Angeles, atendió el College de Cerritos para estudiar cerámica. En el 2009 recibió su Maestría como Educadora de Arte, y en el 2015, completo el Master en Bellas Artes con énfasis en el Estudio de las Artes de la Cerámica, de la Universidad del Estado de California en Los Angeles. Su obra ha sido expuesta en varias gallerias y museos en Los Angeles y en Bogotá En el 2019 le fue concedida la Residencia de Arte (AIR) por Los Angeles Clean Tech Incubator (LACI), en un esfuerzo por integrar arte, ciencia y tecnología, y para inspirar conversaciones con significado cerca de los problemas ambientales.
Como educadora ha trabajado para el Museo del Condado de Los Angeles y el Museo Norton Simon de Pasadena. También a servido como miembro de la Facultad de Artes en la Universidad del Estado de California en LA, como Instructor de Cerámica.
